North Cyprus President Barysh Burku announced that President Mustafa Akyndzhi and the head of the Greek Cypriot administration, Nikos Anastasiades, would meet in the office of Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General Elizabeth Spehar on August 9.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Kudret Ozerz said:
that if the meeting is based on the same parameters of the negotiations that have been discussed over the past 50 years, when no progress has been made, he will not be able to support it.
“This approach means endless discussions about the federal partnership, which will not be implemented and will be completely useless. We, as a government, do not approve of this,” said Ozersai. He added that the natural gas problem will be a test of sincerity for the Greek Cypriot leadership.
